Day 19: hellebore

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Hellebores aren’t the cheapest of plants to buy – but I can’t imagine being without them. We’d be grateful for just about any flower in the middle of winter, but the hellebore is perhaps one of the most beautiful characters to appear in the garden at any time of year, appearing well before the first snowdrops, and lingering long after they’ve gone. Outrageously promiscuous they seed about freely, in time more than repaying the initial investment.
