A walk in the woods always brings inspiration for the garden – lessons in light and shade, meditations on mosses and lichens and the community of creatures on dead wood. Just now, trudging through the fog on a thick, spongey layer of leaf litter, I’m struck by how in a few weeks this same space will have a hazy layer of violet blue stretching away in all directions through the trees. The bluebells might not look much now, but there’s promise in those brave, green fingers poking up through the leaves.
