Day 60: winter work

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Now that we can officially declare that winter is over – I’m not quite sure that I would, though, notwithstanding the backing of meteorologists everywhere and in spite of the purple-leaved plum Prunus cerasifera 'Pissardii' being in flower – now that we could justifiably ring in the spring, I’m reminded that there are a few winter jobs I have yet to do. Pollarding the ash tree, for one, while the branches are still bare and I can see what I’m doing, and thinning the bamboo. And, once again, I’m probably the last person in the world to sow their chilli seeds. Best get on with it.
