Day 125: suddenly the sun

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Ok, now this feels like April. Just as we arrive in May which, when you come to think of it, is about right for a year that’s already revealed an inclination toward the tardy. Mercurial moods effecting both garden and gardener and controlled almost entirely by the movement of the clouds in the sky. Suddenly, the rain goes and the sun comes, and someone has turned the rays up to eleven. Jewel colours glimmer and everything seems bright and full of hope, and even if on closer inspection many of the flowers appear to be wearing on their face an expression that wouldn’t look out of place on a shocked cat’s bum, the challenges of gardening in a changing climate begin to look more like opportunities. (I usually want to punch people when they trot out a phrase as trite as that, so you have my leave to give it your best shot *presents chin*)
