Day 240: ragwort

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

While the goldenrod flies the flag for the tall and yellow ones in the beds and borders (Day 230) in the last weeks of August, it’s left to ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) to do something similar in the wilder areas, leaving me wondering who decided which of these plants was in, and which was out when it came to allotting access to the garden (if we’re honest, goldenrod only just scrapes an invitation, but at least it’s IN). I often catch a solitary plant out the corner of one eye, loitering about in the long grass of the meadow, and wonder if we should invite it in closer, before deciding that that might only make it feel uncomfortable.

Detailed information about this much maligned plant can be found here.
