Day 243: Pelargonium 'Vectis Glitter'

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Stellar Pelargonium ‘Vectis Glitter’ is doing her best, but could do with a little sun in which to sparkle. The volatile oils within the leaves of herbs and scented pelargoniums need a little encouragement to do their thing, but the kind of warm summer fug that would encourage these wonderful scented compounds to become airborne has been lacking of late. So I’m out here, rudely squeezing the foliage, and breathing it all in deep. Strange to think so many of these plants will be coming back inside the house in a month or so – though some, I confess, haven’t even made it outside this year. There’s plenty of pellie fettling and taking of cuttings to come, but for now, it’s more of a squeeze-and-sniff thing.
