Day 335: a bare root rose

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

There’s been big brown bag lurking about in the courtyard for far longer than I care to admit, waiting for me to create an appropriately portentous moment to unpack its exciting contents. Naturally, the moment proved elusive, and today I resorted with little ceremony to ripping the bag open and sticking its contents into a handy watering can for fear that – in spite of the excellent packaging – they’d dry out in their long confinement. One day soon, I might even get around to planting them. An odd way to behave around a load of prickly, green sticks, but the arrival of a new bare root rose should always be the cause for celebration.
