Day 167: Rose 'Lady of Shalott'

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Arriving fashionably late, my ‘Lady of Shallot’ rose has graced the border with a bloom or two, just in time to catch the end of the wallflowers and some of the geums. She’s the perfect rose for this spot, though both the tardiest and least vigorous-growing of all the roses in my garden – also the most recently planted, so perhaps she’s yet to get her feet down properly. I’m reserving judgement, though it hasn’t escaped my attention that any rose planted bare root (see this post from Day 5) took off like a shot, while this arrived as a pot grown specimen.
