Day 267: autumn arrives

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Autumn arrived yesterday, and with it, the rain, putting paid to any last remaining hopes of an Indian summer. The clouds look set to be staying with us for a while and when they go they promise to take the warmer temperatures with them. This feels right, and though surely no one embraces the pilfering of the light with enthusiasm, there’s a sense among the plants that the long anticipated wet stuff is welcome. And it’s not as if it’s game over for the garden this year. There are seeds to sow and, until the first frosts, beds full of flowers to enjoy.
