Day 246: ivy in flower

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

There’s been a buzz and a fugginess about my wanderings today, in the garden, the streets and the fields. I tracked it down to a wall of mature ivy (Hedera helix) in flower, that slightly musky scentemanating from a low-hanging cloud of pollen hanging thickly all about, every flower a docking station for an eager bee or hover fly. Returning in the early evening to grab a photo, insects, clouds and fugginess had all disipated, save one solitary hover fly who refused to be snapped until I’d agreed terms with his agent. What a spectacular plant, treated with indifference bordering on disdain.
