Day 321: indoor plant faffing

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

The weather has been filthy all week and, though here in Kent we’ve got away pretty lightly this time around and I’ve been able to garden right through, it’s still made a pleasant change to spend some time with plants indoors. Sitting at a table by a window while fettling pelargoniums seems a fine way to while away the time, particularly when there’s a fire crackling away on the other side of the room. I deadhead, pluck dead and dying leaves off, take cuttings if I’m being purposeful, or rescue bits I’ve clumsily snapped off if not – the result is much the same. I had thought I’d cut them back mercilessly, but clearly not, and there’s really far too much large floppy foliage for them to get through the winter comfortably inside. It’s something I have every intention of getting around to, just not too quickly or efficiently, else how would I keep myself out of mischief on a cold, wet and grey afternoon?
